About Sam
Spruce Works Aviation is led by Sam Tomline, whose lifelong enthusiasm for aviation has always been accompanied by a particular affection for vintage aeroplanes. From building model aircraft as a young boy to taking his first glider flight at 15 and later progressing to powered flying, Sam has experienced aviation from both the workshop and the cockpit. This gives him an appreciation of not only the engineering involved, but also the expectations and aspirations of owners and pilots.
Over the years, that early interest has grown into a career dedicated to the care and preservation of classic aircraft. Today, Sam provides a range of aviation repair, restoration and maintenance services, drawing on practical experience across a variety of vintage types. With a background in traditional woodworking and a particular specialism in aircraft woodworking repair and component fabrication, this has become a central focus of Spruce Works Aviation.
For Sam, aeroplanes have never simply been a job. There is genuine satisfaction in understanding how these machines are built, working with traditional practices and helping preserve them for the future. That personal passion, combined with practical experience and an understanding of the owner’s perspective, underpins the work carried out at Spruce Works Aviation.
